Will Your Social Platforms Save You From GDPR?

We all know that GDPR will dramatically change most businesses, as the need to follow the new rules will mean a change in tactic for your marketing. If you have been following Luv4 Marketing over the years you’ll know that we have always encourage smaller databases with permission-based contacts as part of the inbound values that we follow.

For lots of businesses they have used more outbound tactics of contacting businesses of all shapes and sizes with little targeting and little relationship building along the way.

Businesses often email connections cold, call businesses cold and try marketing to businesses cold. Think how you feel when this happens to you!

GDPR has adapted to the modern world and will stop the ‘cold’ marketing and help change to a warmer marketing, one that will inevitably bring far better results as the marketing that you send will have been asked for.

The short-term means that you’ll need to build up permission based lists, one that not only your customer asked to join but is very transparent about what they will receive.

But just where will your sales funnel come from? (after all your database will be defunct).

Look to social platforms and look to build communities! Communities feed each other with great value information that is useful to the person or the business time and time again. It’s a one-stop shop of free value that builds relationships and allows a great engagement that often leads to further friendship or sales.

Socials are separate to GDPR because the ‘customer’ follows you and is in control of whether they remain reading your timelines or not. You don’t have the contact details stored in your own CRM systems and the contact is aware of the rules of the game from that particular platform.

So start running your own groups on LinkedIn and Facebook to gain a large following of like-minded people who want to hear from you. You can use the groups to encourage sign ups into the new email list or market to them direct from the group.

Use two tactics, one to build your followers and one to market to them. Have a very specific purpose for the group and don’t deviate from that. Post regular content and always look to build up relationships as a key point to running the group.
